There's always a lot of excitement around a studio being able to create a new IP free from the shackles of their original publisher and constraints. However, somewhere in the crossroads between what a developer actually wanted to create back in the day and what they want to do now lies the Failed Spiritual Successor. These games often miss the mark of what players liked about the original game while also failing to create something fresh and new.
Also, did I get the Resident Evil vs Devil May Cry thing backwards? I can't remember which came first.
