Another selection of handovers from Pete Murray to David Hamilton, all recorded during the summer of 1978.
All of the main Radio 2 daytime shows had their own signature tunes which became very familiar over the years; -
Terry Wogan: Brass Incorporated - Just Like That
Jimmy Young: Ken Woodman & his Piccadilly Brass - Town Talk
Pete Murray: Brian Fahey - Open House
John Dunn: Les Reed - Imogene (intro) and Syd Dale - Central Park Parade (close)
These were a real throw-back to the days of the BBC Light Programme and a tradition only carried through to today's daytime Radio 2 line-up by Steve Wright.
When David Hamilton switched to Radio 2 at the end of 1977, he also gained an opening & closing theme tune but it never sat comfortably with his style of presentation. As you'll hear, by the summer of 1978, Pete Murray spotted that it had quietly been lost.
