BEAR TRAP -- DESKTOP DEFENSE!
“Catch and Release at your Desk”
** DETAILS **
HOW LONG TO MAKE: 30 hours to make two -- (Another one would only take me about 3 hours)
HARDEST PART(s): Cutting and shaping, and polishing the steel
HOW FOUND: Wandering around on the internet, and found this guy who had made a keyring-size toy bear trap. I made several that size first, and then resized the plans to make it a bit bigger and made two more. I added the wood base.
MATERIALS: Steel from Home Depot, angle grinder, Dremel, lots and lots of cutting wheels and grinding wheels for both the angle grinder and the Dremel tool, Brasso metal polish, Walnut for the base, Maple for the stake, automotive lacquer sprayed and “painted” onto the steel, Deft lacquer for the wood base.
NOTES: Fun project! Brutal on the fingertips. (I’ve got callouses and burns now. Grinding makes steel hot - Duh!) Oh, and to make the trap work, I had to do quite a bit of adjusting to the guy’s original plans.

My son Daniel shot a bear. He also loves having eclectic things on his desk at work. So I made him this Bear Trap – and while I was at it, I made one for me!
