Nelson Rocks Via Ferrata
Near Seneca Rocks and Davis, West Virginia, otherworldly and massive rock formations rise out of the mountains, creating incredible landscapes you can't find anywhere else. Similar to the terrain of the Alps, the mountains are great training grounds for traversing alpine routes, especially for our country's armed forces. Via ferrata means "iron road" or "iron way," and was built to help Allied Forces scale and traverse the Alps during World War II. They consist of cables, ladder rungs, and suspension bridges that connect mountain ridges and make it possible to traverse narrow mountain ledges. There are several via ferratas in the United States and each offer a different set of challenges, especially fun for those who enjoy rock climbing and mountaineering.
