Ray Hayden here, showing what has happened a few times since the city of Leesburg, FL has annexed land for high density development in our rural area. This development has flooded out County Road 44 more than once.
In this video, you will see that traffic is backing up, that people cross the solid yellow line to avoid the flooding, and one truck in shoots off a huge "Rooster Tail" of red clay mud off the side of the road.
We fight high density development because the developments do not fit our rural area, and they cause more problems than simply providing new housing.
We are not against people being able to do things with their land, but the Developers who come in DO NOT LIVE HERE, and they never will. Most are from outside of the county (if not all of them), they come in, cause problematic issues, and they flip the property to a builder, who causes more issues and problems.
In the end? The people who buy into the high density developments pay the price directly, while all of us who live on rural property, or "rural transition" property, pay the indirect price of foolish practices, which do more harm than good.
