Ray Hayden here, discussing the challenges we discovered while removing our old microwave oven, to replace it with a range hood.
The microwave oven was 30 inches wide, and the original owner of the home had custom blocks of wood to frame that microwave in - giving it the appearance that the microwave was built right into the cabinets.
When we removed the old microwave, and did a test fit of the range hood, we noted that it did not fit - it was slightly too tight, and I would do damage to the cabinets if I worked it into place.
We decided to remove the wood blocks, and open the area up wider, still using the 30 inch range hood that we picked up, because it would allow us to open up the area above our oven a bit more.
This video discusses how we will address those issues.
There is a slight delay in the new installation, because we are deciding on the backsplash area around the cabinets, where the range hood is going, but I will prep the area for the final installation so that we can rapidly install and finish the project when we are ready for that final step.
