IDEAL DIODE working and VI Characteristics
the ideal diode is a two terminal device which acts as a perfect conductor when forward biased and acts as a perfect insulator when reversed biased.
VI characteristics of ideal diode
Forward bias
When ideal diode is forward biased it perfect conductor with zero resistance and zero voltage drop across it.
Reverse bias
When ideal diode is reverse biased it acts as perfect insulator with infinite resistance and zero current through it.
Thus, ideal diode acts as automatic switch.
It acts as closed switch when forward biased.

Difference between forward and reverse region in VI characteristics
Forward Region
Current is very high
No voltage drop across diode, V = 0.
With diode resistance, R = 0
Diode acts as short circuit or closed switch.
It is called conducting or in ON state
It can take any current with zero voltage drop.
Reverse Region
Current, I = 0
Voltage drop across diode is very high in reverse direction.
With diode resistance, R = infinite
Diode acts as open circuit or open switch.
It is called non conducting or in OFF state.
It takes any voltage with zero current.
