So the first round is the hardest round to pick because this really sets the tone for how we pick. With Sidney Jones rupturing his Achilles it really put the Eagles in a tough spot. Also with the Eagles signing Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith it sort of lowers the immediate need for a wide receiver. Ultimatly I am against getting a running back in the first so I won't be taking Christian McCafrey like other mock drafts suggest but instead I will be going with Gareon Conely the Corner Back from Ohio St. After the Sidney Jones injury I started thinking we should trade back to get Conley because he is a perfect fit for the Eagles, but with Sidney Jones and Fabian Moreau getting injured guys like Conley's draft stock got boosted. While I don't necissarily think he is worth the 14th overall pick I think if we don't take him we will miss out on getting good corners for the future.
For the second round pick I have to go with Joe Mixon from Oklahoma. In my last mock draft I had him in the third round however intrest has grown for Mixon and I don't think he makes it out of the second round. If Mixon falls to the Eagles in the second round they have to take him. He fits everything they need. They could use him on 20-25 plays a game and he can catch the ball out the back field. Overall Mixon is the most complete running back in the draft but his draft stock obviously fell because of the off field issues. However Jefree Lurie did give the Eagles the O.K. to go ahead and pick this guy up if he falls to us so hopefully nothing new comes out and the Eagles keep their sights set on him because he would be an amazing pick up.
For the third round I have us taking another Corner Back Cameron Sutton from Tennessee. If not for an ankle injury in his senior season this guy would be a first round pick. He played phenomenally up until his ankle injury and I don't see his ankle hindering him from performing at the NFL level. He is really good in man to man coverage and that is a huge factor for a player in the Eagles scheme. However his size is a bit of a concern he is 5'11 and only 188 pounds, if he can add some muscle this off season he could be a really strong competitor and easily a starter for the Eagles.
With the Eagles first 4th round pick I will go with Carlos Watkins the Defensive Tackle from Clemson. I decided to go with a Defensive Tackle instead of an Edge Rusher because Beau Allen is out for 4-6 months with an injury and that leaves Tim Jerrnigan. While I have faith in Jerrnigan I don't want something to go wrong and have nothing to fall back on. Carlos Watkins is a beast he had 13.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks last season.
With the second 4th round pick I go with a guy I put in my last mock draft Josh Reynolds the WR from Texas A&M. We got Torrey Smith to be our vertical threat this off season but I don't fully trust him. I really hope he can be a vertical threat for the Eagles but in case that doesn't happen I think A guy like Josh Reynolds is a perfect replacement. Much like Torrey Smith, Reynolds is sort of a 1 trick pony he can only go deep, his underneath routes are not really anything to impressive.
For the 5th round pick I decided to go with a linebacker in Steven Taylor from Houston. This guy is sort of one dimensional in a similar fashion to Mychael Kendricks. This guy is an absolute beast on the blitz and is very good at stopping the run short.
For the 6th round pick I decided to go with 1 more Corner Back in Damontae Kazee from San Diego. Due to the other corners I talked about earlier getting injured Kazee may end up going higher than the 6th round but if he falls the Eagles should definitely take this guy to either be a slot corner or a developmental talent.
And finally for the 7th round pick I am going with the same guy as my last mock draft Jerry Ungokwe the offensive tackle from William & Marry. This guy is coming from a low level school and didn't really play against top level talent but he has all the physical traits you want in a tackle. This is really a developmental pick obviously he has the size but if you can develop this guy to have the skill set of a pro tackle he could end up being one of the best tackles in the game.
