The response of all types of support for the local Maine community has been tremendous. There have been numerous requests for interpreters from individuals and organizations. Additionally, an abundance of out-of-state interpreters have generously offered to come to assist in providing communication. The volume has been tremendously overwhelming and a stressful situation for both coordination staff and interpreters.
In efforts to centralize these interpreter services, the local Maine agencies Pine Tree Society (PTS) and MJ Grant Interpreting (MJGI) are temporarily collaborating with Massachusetts-based Partners Interpreting (PI) to help. PI is providing coordination staff and assisting in onboarding interpreters on behalf of PTS/MJGI to cover requests and to supplement local staff, allowing them time to process and grieve.
Organizations, individuals, and/or families with interpreting requests can contact via:

Deaf and Hearing Interpreters who are interested in providing interpreting services either onsite or remote can complete an online intake form. If there is a need for interpreting for healthcare (medical/mental health), TV press, media, support services, religious/spiritual, wake/funeral services, and personal/family needs, as well as general interpreting needs not related to this tragedy, please make your request by going to aslinterpretermaine.com.
In addition, we are assembling a team of day-shift interpreters to help for the immediate next two weeks. Logistics for hotel accommodations are in process. Medical interpreters will be required to furnish standard vaccine documentation (Varicella, MMR, flu, COVID).
We extend our utmost gratitude to the community for coming together in this time of need, and our hearts are with all who have been affected by this tragic event.
