Data Position

The alignment option, which is located on the Home tab, contains options for changing the position of data within the cell. It includes options for changing the horizontal and vertical alignments of data in the cell, changing the direction and orientation in which the data will be displayed on the
cell, merging and splitting cells, and applying indents.

Right-clicking the cell and choosing
Format Cells from the context menu opens the Format Cells
box. The Alignment Page of the Format Cells box contains all
the options for changing the position of the data within the cell
or range.

Changing the Cell Alignment
Alignment is the position of data inside the cell. In Spreadsheet, data contained in a cell or range.

To Change the Horizontal Alignment:

1. Select the cell(s) that you want to format.
2. On the Home tab, click on the horizontal alignment buttons.

To Change the Vertical Alignment:
1. Select the cell(s) that you want to format.
2. On the Home tab, click on the vertical alignment buttons.

To Wrap Text in a Cell:
1. Select the cell(s) that you want to format.
2. On the Home tab, click on the Wrap Text button.

Merging Cells

Merging is the process of combining two or more cells to
become one large cell that is displayed across multiple columns or rows.

To Merge Cells using the Home tab:
1. Select the cells that you want to merge.
2. On the Home tab, click on the Merge and Center Cells button.

To Merge Cells using the Context Menu:

1. Select the cells that you want to merge.
2. Right-click the selected cells, then choose Merge Cells from the context
menu.

To Unmerge Cells using the Context Menu:
1. Select the cell that you want to unmerge.
2. Right-click the selected cell, then choose Split Cells from the context menu.

Changing the Text Direction
By default, the data are displayed horizontally on the cell. Rotated text is used for labeling narrow columns.

To Change the Text Direction:
1. Select the cell(s) you want to format.
2. Right-click the selected cell(s), then choose Format Cells from the context menu.
3. On the Format Cells box, choose the Alignment page.
4. Type the degrees, or rotate the desired text orientation.
5. Click OK when done.

Changing Indents
Increase and decrease Indent buttons are used for adding or reducing the margin between the left cell border and the data in the cell.

To Change the Indent:
1. Select the cell(s) you want to format.
2. On the Home tab, click either Increase Indent or Decrease Indent button.
