RUFOUS WOODPECKER Nest Building, Singapore
A female Rufous Woodpecker was hard at work, pecking away in the process of constructing a nest. Her male counterpart could be heard calling in the background, but during this session, she was the sole excavator. The poor thing worked so hard until she was exhausted & could be seen napping as she hung on to the nest opening.
Rufous Woodpeckers are well known for building their nests within the ants' nests, as could be seen in this case.
The Rufous Woodpecker is an uncommon resident in Singapore.
