This species is an uncommon upper hill & montane forest endemic, found along the central Bornean mountain ranges.
The female lacks the black throat markings which the male spots.
It is a terrestrial feeder, walking in small family groups along the forest floor, foraging for berries, seeds, insects & grubs.
The subspecies found in Sabah is the Arborophila hyperythra erythrophrys, with chestnut supercilium, instead of grey in the A.h. hyperythra found in Sarawak & Kalimantan.
