WHITEHEAD'S TROGON, Borneo
The search for this uncommon endemic montane resident was pretty challenging. When it was finally spotted, it was perched quietly deep inside the forest.
Fortunately, I managed to meet this species twice. I treasured every fleeting glimpse of this shy & skittish bird. Perhaps wearing such outstandingly colourful plumage made it self-conscious among its drab forest habitat!
Featured here is the male Whitehead's Trogon, with its grey breast & deep scarlet crown & underparts. The second individual was possibly a sub-adult male, with its blotchy scarlet underparts.
Whitehead's Trogon is confined to primary mountain forests above 900m.
