Five tech industry pioneers were honored on Friday, Sept. 6, by the Industrial Technology Research Institute. They were Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang; Chair and CEO of AMD Lisa Su; Chair and CEO of Acer Jason Chen; GlobalWafers CEO Doris Hsu; and Superintendent of Taichung Veterans General Hospital Dr. Chen Shih-ann. The new ITRI Laureates were decorated by Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim. Let’s hear from them.

Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim decorates an award recipient and hands over a certificate. Among the five new ITRI Laureates named this year are Chair and CEO of Acer Jason Chen, GlobalWafers CEO Doris Hsu and Superintendent of Taichung Veterans General Hospital Dr. Chen Shih-ann. There’s also two household names.

They are Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Lisa Su, CEO of AMD. Joining the ceremony from the US over video call, they shared their visions for Taiwan’s AI industry in their acceptance speeches.

Thank you for this great honor. And just as ITRI played a formative role in Taiwan’s chip and computer industries, ITRI will again play a central role in advancing AI and robotics research and adoption in Taiwan.

I am deeply humbled and incredibly honored to be recognized as an ITRI Laureate on behalf of AMD. This honor represents the collective efforts of the global AMD team and the strong partnerships that we’ve built.

In her remarks, Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim commended the laureates for their distinct contributions. Nvidia’s and AMD’s expansion in Taiwan has deepened; while Dr. Chen Shih-ann had contributed to smart healthcare. Jason Chen of Acer promoted international exchanges at APEC and Doris Hsu of GlobalWafers has long been a collaborator with ITRI. On the same day, the vice president also took a look at an exhibition on Taiwan’s R&D. She said cooperative projects between the government, academia and industry, had let Taiwan be seen on the global stage.

Technological prowess is national competitiveness. For a long time ITRI has served as an incubator of technologies and the center of Taiwanese technology, and played a pivotal role in advancing Taiwan’s industries.

The ITRI Laureates have made immense contributions to Taiwan’s industries and wellbeing. That’s the only way for one to become an ITRI Laureate.

The five new laureates were selected for their initiative and grit under a stringent criteria. ITRI hopes that by recognizing their contributions, they’ll continue to break new grounds for Taiwan.
