Taiwan’s Paralympic heroes returned to Taiwan on Tuesday, after bagging three silvers and two bronzes in Paris. Among the medalists were Hsiao Hsiang-wen, who nabbed Taiwan’s first bronze in taekwondo, as well as every member of the table tennis team. The haul is Taiwan’s best in the past four editions of the Paralympics, and the third-best showing overall. Let’s hear from the athletes.
Tian Shiau-wen
Table tennis medalist
I’m very happy to have won the medals, it helped me get over the regret I had from my previous stint in the women’s doubles event. I’m also very happy about the bronze in women’s singles. There is one small but, which is that I think there’s room for improvement on the technical side. So I need to train more.
Chen Po-yen
Table tennis medalist
I won a silver medal on my first time competing, so that’s not bad at all. I thank you all for coming here so early.
The athletes were warmly welcomed upon landing in Taiwan. Their flight was received with a water salute at Taoyuan International Airport, as had been the case for the Olympic team earlier this summer. The Executive Yuan and Presidential Office have organized receptions for the athletes to thank them for bringing glory to Taiwan on the international stage.
