The doorway stretch is great at opening up your shoulders and chest. Sometimes though, if you have a lot of tightness it can be a little too much and you need to work into it.
It's common to have some discomfort if you have a lot of shoulder tension because the doorway forces your shoulder into 90 degrees of external rotation and sometimes that can be a little uncomfortable.
So the solution is to use a dowel and get your shoulder used to rotating externally. Then, slowly get it used to being in the doorway position.
