A lot of times I work with people in my office and we do very gentle "neutral spine" guided exercise exercises to build up some strength and endurance in the lower back, which can be beneficial and help you get out of those acute episodes of low back pain.
But there's a problem....
If we only practice those safe, neutral spine positions, it likely isn't going to translate to the more difficult things that we do in our daily lives like twisting and bending.
Most people come to my office and they have low back pain from doing things like gardening yardwork, hanging out with their kids exercising and a lot of times their spines become irritated when they're outside of that neutral position.
Which is why it's important to progress your exercises and condition those tissues in the low back for being stronger and more resilient outside of those neutral positions.
Quick note this is not an exercise to be performed if you're having an acute flareup or if you have a lot of sensitivity in the low back, this is further down the road when you're feeling pretty good and you don't have a lot of sensitivity and you feel like not having your back pain flareup every couple months
