Bridgit and Julie from SRUC Alumni Relations received a warm welcome from Jenny McKerr on arrival at the Wee Farm Distillery in South Lanarkshire to present her with the Alumni Entrepreneur Network award for Diversification. Jenny studied BSc Agriculture at SRUC (formerly SAC) Auchincruive, graduating in 2004.
In 2017 Jenny and her husband sold everything they owned and moved into a caravan to pursue their dream of farming to produce high quality Scottish produce. The dream started with stocking the farm with native sheep and cattle, followed by a leap into gin distilling, which is now award winning. As the demand for local produce grew, they opened a farm shop selling their own beef and lamb whilst giving other local producers an outlet.
An old farm cottage was renovated into a luxury holiday let to engage with the rise in staycations, and a second holiday let is now also available. The latest venture, inviting the public to get involved in the lambing shed, has been hugely popular. If you want to get married on the farm, there is a place for that too!
