Corporeality. The Limits of Empathy
Using examples from art, film and exhibitions, this talk will attempt to extrapolate the split image of embodiment and empathy in the present: on the one hand, the promises of overcoming the scissions of dualism; and on the other techniques of objectification, inscription and capture used in policing “desirable" and “undesirable” populations. Drawing unwarranted parallels between the white cube setting, AI laboratories and torture chambers, it will explore economic, political and aesthetic dimensions of embodied mimesis.
