Corporeality. On Practicing Empathy and Embodiment. Symposium: Welcoming and Introduction (1)
"Corporeality. Über die Praxis von Empathie und Verkörperung" fand vom 21. bis 23. September 2018 im Museum Folkwang statt und kombinierte als experimentelles Tagungsformat vielseitige Sessions, darunter Gesprächsrunden, Vorträge und Performances zum Thema: Wie kann man den Körper verstehen und wie den Verstand verkörpern?
Expert*innen aus Neurologie, Psychologie, Kunst- und Bildwissenschaft, Philosophie und Soziologie hielten Vorträge und leiteten Gesprächsrunden; die Choreograph*innen Alice Chauchat, Aimar Pérez Galí und Volmir Cordeiro schufen hierzu einen performativen Rahmen, der die Diskussionen und Vorträge aufnahm sowie erweiterte.
Format und Inhalt von Corporeality wurden von Isabel Hufschmidt, Museum Folkwang, und Luísa Saraiva, Choreographin/Tänzerin, Essen/Porto, kuratiert.

At the beginning of Corporeality, Isabel Hufschmidt (Curator, Museum Folkwang), Peter Gorschlüter (Director, Museum Folkwang) and Luísa Saraiva (Choreograph/Dancer, Essen/Porto) held introductions and keynotes on the conference’s subject.
As an experimental conference format, Corporeality combined various sessions, including discussion groups, lectures and performances on the subject: How can we understand the body, and how embody the mind?
Experts from the fields of neurology, psychology, art history, visual studies, philosophy as well as sociology conducted the lectures and discussion groups; the choreographers Alice
Chauchat, Aimar Pérez Galí and Volmir Cordeiro provided the performative context that opened up and widened the discussions and lectures. The interdisciplinary approach taken in this concise form aimed at lastingly fostering exchange between the artistic and scientific field.
Format and content were curated by Isabel Hufschmidt, Museum Folkwang, and Luísa Saraiva, choreograph/dancer, Essen/Porto.
