I'm crawling back to vidding to fuel my obsession with Wolfwood from Trigun Stampede. My Wolfwood brainrot, if you will (if you know, you know) Is it because he's played by David Matranga? Maybe. That's the only reason I started watching the show in the first place.
But it's right up my alley because I'm totally into weird sci-fi shit. But honestly, I didn't expect to love Wolfwood as much as I do. He's definitely in my top favorite characters ever now. He's so sexy and badass with his big ass cross gun. He's patronizing, petulant, and a bit of a potty mouth. Dark haired brooding assholes voiced by David Matranga are my weakness. Attractive surface level traits (at least in fiction), but it wasn't until his backstory in episode 6 that really made me fall in love with him as an interesting and multidimensional character.
So the deal with Wolfwood is, he was raised in an orphanage. And these orphaned kids are used as experiments for a group called The Eye of Michael. He undergoes an experiment that accelerates his metabolism and he physically ages like 10 years, but also his body becomes adapted to using a drug that will instantly heal any injury. The cult manipulates him into staying and being an executioner for them by exploiting his love for his "brother", Livio, who was also taken in by TEOM and has the same experiment performed on him. Wolfwood's story gets pretty murky after that. But sometime later he and Livio meet again. Livio has been more or less brainwashed and Wolfwood is unable to save him.
But the aspect about Wolfwood that fascinates me most is the whole age progression thing. And that he's basically a child in an adult body. His mentality is younger than his physicality. I was so hung up on that after I saw episode 6. It's pretty ambiguous with the timeline because nothing is ever explained. But I feel like it explains so much about his personality and I love it.
His story is pretty morbid. So I wanted to make an angsty video. And I feel like this song fits him so well how he's trapped and just wants to escape the hell that is his life, mentally and physically. He can't allow himself to be vulnerable.
Random tangent, but I actually got to see David again at a con few months ago back in March. I cosplayed as Wolfwood and talked to David about him. He showed me that there's Trigun funko pops (they were announced the weekend we were at that con) and we geeked out about it together. It was so fun. And he was so happy that I had a Wolfwood poster (that I specifically bought from Amazon Japan just for him to sign). Seriously, it looks so cool. It's like my favorite thing he's signed for me ever (and I have a lot of autographs from him) And it was so amazing to see David again. He's so awesome. I just adore him so much. And I'm planning to see him again at another con in like 2 weeks. And I WILL be cosplaying as WW again and I do have plans to build the Punisher. I can't wait!!!
