Once you’re all set up on the machine (see part 1), you’ll need to start the actual rowing stroke.

Begin from the finish position (legs straight, arms bent with hands at bottom of rib cage) as the key to a strong stroke is a solid recovery.

1️⃣ - ARMS: First release the hands with your body back past vertical.

2️⃣ - BODY: Swing the body forward, hinging from the hips. DON’T FORGET THIS. It’s the key to connecting from legs to arms in the drive.

3️⃣ - LEGS: Once your hands are past your knees, start bending them to bring your body up to the front of the stroke, the catch.

Then it’s the same in reverse, LEGS, BODY, ARMS, in the drive of the stroke. Pushing the legs down with the body swung over, then finishing with the opening of the hips and finally, the pulling in of the arms.

Keep it simple. Row slow. Focus on that body swing on the way up to the catch and I promise you it will result in a stronger catch.
