Internal links are an essential part of any SEO strategy, when used correctly. Here, we discuss how and why they affect performance and how you can use them to improve the SEO of your website.

An internal link is a link that points to a page within your own website. They are critical for SEO when used for authority sculpting.

Authority sculpting is using internal links to pass authority (also known as link juice), from one page to another page. So for example, you might have a product or service page that you want to rank for relevant keywords searched for by people in market for this product or service.

One way to improve the authority of the product page would be to execute a content marketing strategy, where blog posts (that often attract high engagement, links and page authority), internally link to the product page to pass some of their authority to the product page so that the product page increases in search visibility.

The internal links need to be relevant though. Not just to help the search engines to better understand the relationship between pages and the content and context of the pages, but for the user experience of anyone who clicks the internal link.

The anchor text is therefore also something that needs to be considered.

In this video, we discuss how internal links improve your SEO strategy through increasing your:
Authority
Crawlability
User experience
SEO performance
