Great diving beetle - Dytiscus marginalis - Dytique bordé - Gelbrandkäfer
The beetle in this video is a great diving beetle (Dytiscus marginalis), a large (27-35 mm, i.e. 1.1–1.4 in) aquatic beetle, which can be found in Europe and northern Asia. The species is a regular visitor to my garden, where I come across with them whenever I am cleaning my water ponds. As I don’t want to hurt them, I always pick them up and keep them in fresh, clean rainwater till I have finished cleaning the ponds. The beetle in the video is a male one.
