In this video we are going to learn:

REVERSE SATURATION CURRENT
The current in the pn junction diode when diode is reverse biased, is called as reverse saturation current.
Holes are minority charge carriers in N type semiconductor and electrons are minority charge carriers in P type semiconductor. They are generated due to thermal agitation.
Electrons in p side diffuse towards n side and holes from n side diffuse towards p side, due to which a small amount of current flows across the junction, called as leakage current or reverse saturation current. The amount of this current depend on number of minority charge carriers and on temperature but does not depend on Reverse bias applied. As reverse saturation current does not depends on amount of Reverse bias, it remains constant with increase in reverse bias voltage.
It has been experimentally found that, reverse saturation current doubles for every 10 degree centigrade rise in temperature
The reverse saturation current in Silicon diode is less than the Germanium diode because the energy gap of silicon is more than germanium.
