Fire Sprinkler at 30,000 frame per second using the Photron Nova S16 high speed camera
This upright sprinkler is a small thermosensitive glass bulb spray sprinkler. This refers to the glass bulb as being the thermosensitive operating element that triggers the sprinkler to operate. This glass-bulb has a break temperature rated for 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Once a fire heats the element to that point or above, the glass breaks releasing a pressure cap. In this video, we used a Photron Fastcam Nova S16 high speed camera shooting at 30,000 frames per second. You can see in red colored fluid explode with the glass, releasing the pressure cap from the brass fixture, allowing the water to hit spreader to disperse the water over the fire area.
