If you've ever had a great idea then you know it doesn't do any good just sitting on your brain. It has to go through a process of IDEA GENERATION. Whether or not you purposely go through this process or not, there must be some process in order to get that idea out of your head.
IDEAS SOLVE PROBLEMS. -You GENERATE an idea because you saw or experienced a problem. Your idea can solve that problem. In order to come up with an idea, you must listen and look. Listen to what people's pain points are and look at what others are experiencing. Your idea will come from these observations.
DONT LEAN TO YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING - Scientists tell us that what gets in the way of ideas is our own knowledge. We try to piece ideas together with our own knowledge and understanding and experiences. Your idea is unique and you have no experience with it so start researching it. At this point, I tell my students not to be discouraged. They usually find out someone has already done it but I tell them that they can probably improve on that idea on their own.
This is where a BUSINESS PLAN will help you. I've created a BUSINESS PLAN ACCELERATOR that will help you get the ideas out of your head and onto paper in a simple but organized way in order to present those ideas to a donor or investor, but first, let's go deeper into this lesson and check out the link at the end.
You must SELECT the best idea out of the many that you have. this is where you ask other people to help you choose. This is pretty scary so you must trust people or have them sign a confidentiality agreement. Please understand that there are other people who have come up with that idea also. (Google how many people invented the car in their country). The difference between you and your" idea competitor" is how fast they can get it out of their head and into a working model.
IMPLEMENT YOUR IDEA-Implementation requires that you write your idea down and then test it. You might be in this phase over and over again for a while until you see it working to solve the problem you originally had. You may have to patent it, or perhaps it's custom-made for your use.
Many of my students come with innovative ideas in my class. With the steps above I ask them to go one step further. Pay attention to trademarks and patents. I have seen lots of frustration when they got to the end of a process and there was a roadblock in these areas. It's better to check these things out right in the SELECTION phase so you can make the appropriate changes.
The BUSINESS PLAN ACCELERATOR is where you can test and validate your idea. It's where you can learn about lean business planning, get right to the point without and pages of fluff and learn about the money, budgets, and forecasting.
The best part of the deal is that Live Plan has partnered with us to bring you an amazing experience. check it out at:
