Hey everyone, it's Matt, and today I'm going to show you how to insert and customize tables in Google Docs. I'm starting with a blank document, and I want to highlight that Google has recently improved their table functionalities, making them pretty cool and user-friendly.
To add a table, you simply click on "Insert" at the top of the toolbar. Then, hover over "Table," where you'll find a few options.
One of the neat features is the building blocks, which are essentially templates for different types of tables. You can see the most popular ones like a simple decision log, review tracker, and more.
If you want more options, just click "View More."
Now, let’s create a table. You can visually expand the table by dragging your cursor to select the number of rows and columns you want.
For example, if I want a 16x8 table, I just move my cursor over the grid, and it creates the table size for me. Once I click, the table is inserted into the document.
Initially, the table looks pretty basic, but there are plenty of ways to customize it. For instance, you can change the table color to something like blue or even a bright red if you want it to stand out.
You can also adjust the line thickness to make it more pronounced, giving it a unique look. After customizing, if I want to go back to a standard table, I just undo my changes.
Then, I can click "Insert" again and select "Table" to explore the template options. For example, the project roadmap template is really useful.
You can start adding text right away, and some of these cells even have drop-down menus for easier data entry. If you keep exploring the "Building Blocks" section and click on "View More," you'll discover a variety of tables that might fit your needs.
You can see a preview of each table style as you hover over them, which is a nice touch. There are templates for communication, meeting notes, and even contact lists.
For instance, if I want to create a sales contact table, I can customize the title and change the font color using the toolbar. It’s as simple as selecting the text and choosing a new color.
You can keep adjusting the table to fit your specific requirements, whether it’s adding data or changing layouts. In summary, adding a table in Google Docs is straightforward.
Just click "Insert" and then "Table." You can either build your own table or choose from the ready-made templates available. I hope you found this video helpful!
