Speaker:
In the early 90’s, Prof. Gavin Tabor graduated from Christs College at University of Cambridge with a degree in Theoretical Physics and later obtained his PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics at University of Oxford. He went then to work for 5 years as a researcher at Imperial College London, specifically he worked on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) of multiphase flows and the modeling of premixed turbulent combustion, and also contributed towards the development of the earliest OpenFOAM code. Since 1999, he is working at the University of Exeter, where he is now a Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics. His group has now established an extensive research coverage including optimisation (adjoint and machine learning), offshore renewable energy, and physical modeling (scour, combustion, multiphase flow, among others). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and member of the Computational Physics Group committee of the same institute. He is an active member of the OpenFOAM Community; currently, he is a Chair of the Joint Technical Committees for the OpenFOAM Governance effort, and a member of the international OpenFOAM Workshop Committee.
