LESSON PROPER
Capacity and Mass Measurement

Capacity The amount of liquid that a container can hold
Liter (L) The basic metric unit of capacity
Milliliter (mL) A metric unit of capacity used to measure small amounts

1 000 mL is equal to 1 L

Converting Liters to Milliliters

To convert liters to milliliters, multiply the value of milliliters by 1000. Examples

Liters (L) Milliliters (mL)
3 3 000
6 6 000
10 10 000
8 8 000
2 2 000

Converting Milliliters to Liters
To convert milliliters to liters, divide the value of liters by 1000.
Examples

Milliliters (mL) Liters (L)
4 000 4
70 000 70
33 000 33
12 000 12
9 000 9

Mass The amount of matter in a substance
Kilogram (kg) The basic metric unit of mass
Gram (g) A metric unit of mass used to measure small amounts

1 000 g is equal to 1 kg.

Converting Kilograms to Grams
To convert kilograms to grams, multiply the value of kilograms by 1000. Examples

Kilograms (kg) Grams (g)
2 2 000
4 4 000
6 6 000
9 9 000
12 12 000

Converting Grams to Kilograms
To convert grams to kilograms, divide the value of kilograms by 1000.

Examples

Grams (g) Kilograms (kg)
5 000 5
8 000 8
10 000 10
20 000 20
35 000 35
