Karasu Tengu - Digital Painting Process
Based on "Tengu" from Japanese mythology. Normally Tengus are represented wearing a red mask with a long nose, and perhaps more monkey-like. This Tengu is specifically a "Karasu Tengu", or a Tengu that takes after crows and birds of prey. It took me a while of research to try to find there were different types, and to find references and inspiration for them as well. Maybe this type of tengu normally wears a mask too, but my client wanted specifically one with a natural crow head.
This was commissioned work for the Mythos Kickstarter game (w/ client Demigod Entertainment) as card artwork. The same client my previous Anubis artwork ( • Anubis - Digital Painting Process (Mythos ... ). I'm coming out with at least 2 more cards for this game which are basically a Chinese style dragon and Chang' Er from Chinese myth! (As the game is about creatures and gods from many types of mythologies). I'm super tired this month from all the work. Also including a big personal artwork as well which I'm taking a slower pace with.
