What Are Doppelgangers?
François Brunelle is a Canadian photographer who has been capturing eeriely similar looking people or better known as doppelgangers, for over two decades.
His project, "I'm Not a Look-Alike," is a fascinating exploration of this phenomenon, featuring over 250 pairs of look-alikes from around the world.
These people are mostly not related by blood or any means, which makes the idea of it much more interesting.
Brunelle's work is minimalistic and striking, using a white background and black-and-white negative film to emphasize the resemblances between the subjects.
The portraits are often startling, as the subjects appear incredibly similar, yet the subtle differences in their faces are also highlighted.
His dedication to his project has required years of travel, networking, and trust-building with the people he captures. It's not very easy to find two similar looking person, let alone arranging this.
He has traveled extensively to find and photograph look-alikes in various cities and countries. He still mostly relies on local networks and media outlets to spread the word about his project and to make avenues for new people to join his project.
