The end goal is to have as many movement options and strategies as possible. This hip range of motion assessment is used to determine – among other things – whether or not the athlete:
1) Can achieve the desired 130-140 degrees of access without overpressure, and
2) Does not have a bone-on-bone type restriction or similar preventing progress to said 130-140 degrees of access.
Whether you're experiencing pain in the hip, cannot hit a certain shape or movement (eg squat), or are compensating when hitting a shape or movement, this hip assessment is a useful way to find root cause and eliminate potential factors.
