Late ice perch fishing on Lake Simcoe near Beaverton turned into a strange day on the ice.
Some areas still had over 20 inches of ice while other spots had open holes forming and the conditions were starting to get sketchy. Most anglers around us were getting completely skunked and the bite was extremely slow.
We managed to keep a few perch and release one, but later in the day a giant Lake Simcoe jumbo perch showed up completely out of nowhere.
Definitely one of the biggest perch of the trip and a great way to end a tough day of late ice fishing.
If you are planning to fish Lake Simcoe right now, be extremely careful. Late ice conditions can change quickly and there are already open holes forming in some areas.
