Supporting Tawergha to encourage people to return
Through generous funding from the European Union, UNDP is supporting the municipality of Tawergha to encourage people to return to the city. This includes job creation and income-generating activities, which have provided 217 vulnerable people, including IDPs, migrants, youth and women, with temporary jobs, assets and training to establish new small businesses and job opportunities.
Additionally, CSOs have been supported to play a greater role in promoting peace through capacity building, grants and training. One of these CSOs is the Atwar Organization, which is playing a powerful role in fostering stronger bonds between Misrata and Tawergha through initiatives such as women and youth training on national reconciliation.
As part of UNDP's Local Peacebuilding and Resilience Strategy, we continue to support reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts in Misrata and Tawergha, aimed at mobilizing efforts for the safe return of displaced communities.
