I’m thankful that during this period when my wrist is broken that I can still draw and therefore explore ideas and imagery in my sketchbook that could evolve into new ceramic pieces. When I go out into the landscape to look for inspiration, and more often when I’m not looking for inspiration but find it at unexpected times in unexpected places, I will then come back to the studio to capture the idea in my sketchbook.
This is such an important part of my practice that allows my work to continually evolve and sustains my level of engagement.

The dunes area near Hayle (locally known as the Towans) is an unusual and beautiful landscape that has natural beauty but also evidence of human activity that has historically included dynamite manufacturing and mining. I often walk and run there and also just enjoy sitting, looking and breathing in the fresh Atlantic air.

This place already has an affect on my ceramic work and it will continue to do so in some way, and it is by visiting, looking and drawing that will allow that to happen.
