It may be hard to believe but Miss Asha is now almost 12 weeks old, fully weaned and living in the main flight aviary with our other bats in care.
The bottles, teats, dummies and mumma rolls have been packed away for another season and we keep our fingers and toes crossed for a quiet winter.
Asha still clings to her favourite teddy through the day but she is fully nocturnal and spending her nights feasting on fruit, practice flapping and exploring her new world.
As Miss Asha is one of the last orphans into care this season she will be creched and released with the other little stragglers in a few weeks time provided the weather remains fair and the anticipated flowering eventuates.
Mother flying-foxes continue to suckle their baby for up to six months and the annual cycle of life means that adult females are either pregnant or caring for an infant throughout the year.
