✨Fluffy cottage cheese dough, juicy apricots, and golden buttered breadcrumbs—what more could you want?
In this video, we’ll make Slovenian Apricot Dumplings, also called Marelčni knedli. This is a cozy dish we eat as a main course here in Slovenia—yes, really! You’ll learn how to make them from scratch with just a few simple ingredients.
✅ Perfect for summer fruit lovers, dumpling fans, and anyone exploring Eastern European recipes.
This recipe makes 12-13 dumplings.
🔹Ingredients:🔹
12-14 appricots
2 large eggs
1 pack of vanilla sugar (8g / 2 tsp)
500 g / 1.1 lbs cottage cheese
200 g / 1⅔ cups flour
2 tbsp semolina
white/brown sugar (or sugar cubes) for filling
~ 3 tbsp bread crumbs
3 tbsp butter
extra flour for dusting
extra sugar for dusting
🔹Preparation:🔹
1.) Carefully split each apricot along its seam and remove the pit, keeping the halves together. Set aside.
2.) Whisk 2 eggs with 8g vanilla sugar until foamy. Mix in cottage cheese, then add 2 tbsp semolina flour. Gradually work in 200g regular flour to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
3.) Flour your work surface, turn out the dough, flatten gently, and cut into 12–14 equal pieces.
4.) Flatten one dough piece in floured hands, place an apricot in the center with ½ tsp sugar (or a sugar cube), then wrap and seal it into a ball. Repeat with all pieces.
5.) Boil salted water, reduce to a simmer, and gently cook the dumplings for ~10 minutes until they float.
6.) Toast 3 tbsp breadcrumbs in 2–3 tbsp butter over medium heat until golden and nutty. Set aside.
7.)Lift dumplings from water, top with toasted breadcrumbs and a dusting of sugar. Serve warm!
