Projekt 1065

My name is Jade Paumi and I am reviewing Projekt 1065 by Alan Gratz.
Projekt 1065 is a historical fiction book that is mainly for kids in Middle School. This book is not part of a series.
In the book, Michael, the main character, finds a downed airman in a bush. Michael finds him when he is with his Hitler Youth group. His group is supposed to find the downed airman and bring him to the officers and they would take him from there. Michael was clearly not in agreement, so once he found the airman he hide him in a barn and left with the rest of the Hitler Youth. After rescuing the airman, Michael and his family planned an escape, but the plan want south. Instead of planning a second escape, Michael did something outrageous and the rest is history.
Michael is the protagonist in Projekt 1065. While Ma, Da, Simon, and many others are all antagonists. There are many problems in the book, but the main one is trying to get Simon out of the country. My favorite character by far is Simon because teaches Michael so many things when hided in Michael’s house.
In the heart of the book is the lesson Michael learns. This lesson is sometimes you have to give up something or someone in order to save the world. Michael uses this lesson at the end the book when he gives the Allies an advantage.
I would definitely give this book five stars because it has the reader on the edge of their seat the whole way.
I loved this book. It had so many emotional parts. You should definitely read it though if you love history and fiction because this has both. My favorite part of the book is definitely when Simon shows Michael Kim’s Game. Kim’s Game is a memory game in which you memorize objects and everything about them.
I hope you will read this book if you are interested in historical fiction.
