The titles music to Wizball on the Commodore 64. Martin Galway's spacey, Jean Michel-Jarre-infused odyssey is one of the iconic tunes of the SID chip. See more of my classic game video music playlist    • Classic video game music

Wizball is a wonderfully eccentric side-scrolling shooter originally developed by Sensible Software for the Commodore 64 in 1987, and then subsequently ported to the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Amiga, and Atari ST. It was published by Ocean Software.

You control a wizard who has turned himself into a bouncing green ball (as you would!) and the aim is to collect red, green and blue paint for restoring the colour to the monochrome landscapes. As you progress through the game, you gradually upgrade your abilities and can even summon a companion called Cattelite, who can be controlled by a second player.

I think I was eight or so when I first played Wizball on the Speccy. To be honest, I didn't have a clue what I was doing (I still don't really!) but found myself mesmerized by the quirky sci-fi landscapes and general weirdness. Of course, the C64 version of Wizball is far superior, not least because of Galway's awesome music.
