Satoe Terashima's fabulous Vampire Killer, which is the track that plays during the first stage of Castlevania on the NES/Famicom. See more of my classic game video music playlist: • Classic video game music
Castlevania is a gothic-horror themed action-platformer developed and published by Konami for the Famicom in 1986. It reached the American and European markets in 1987 and 1988, respectively.
Although the gameplay of the first Castlevania title is very linear, the sequel and other entries to the franchise feature a much more open world. Like Metroid (1986), they allow the player to explore an interconnected map in a non-linear fashion and to unlock new areas through acquiring skills and special items or weapons. Hence the term Metroidvania, which is a booming subgenre within the sphere of indie gaming.
I have to admit, I'm not very good Castlevania, especially the boss fights! And I find the gameplay a little too repetitive and linear. But there's something very charming and captivating about the simple yet vibrant 8-bit visuals. And the chiptune soundtrack is ace!
