Affordable Every Day Carry Backpack - Osprey Nebula (meh)
This is a bag I really wanted to like. Osprey is a really popular brand for its affordability and durability. I'd say, for awhile there, it was the most common brand I'd see on my travels during the 2000s. Since then, there have been a bunch of options that have come to the market and I think I prefer them to what Osprey is offering. I tried out the Farpoint and just couldn't get into it. I prefer the Tortuga bags much more.
At $120, the Nebula is fairly affordable. This price comes at the cost of it feeling average in hand. It's not as bad as a Jansport or Eastpak, but you are not going to be impressed with how it looks or feels in person. The nylon employed throughout is just nothing to write home about. Still, I could get past this shortcoming if it delivered on the usability and comfort fronts.
Unfortunately, the bag is just not usable. The front, and arguably most used compartment on the bag just had one zipper. This, combined with the oddly placed compression straps, made getting into and out of this compartment a hassle. The other two compartments had double zipper pulls, so I am not sure why they skimped on the front compartment.
Comfort-wise, I felt it was a nice pack to carry. It even has a rudimentary hip belt to help take the load off the shoulders and back for longer treks. Two side water bottle pockets also were a plus.
Overall, I shan't be using this bag much, just because of the zipper issues on the front compartment. It's a shame too, I really had high hopes for the Osprey bag.
