Great Travel Backpack - Tortuga Setout Laptop Backpack Review
Wiow, I really liked this bag.
I've already reviewed three other Tortuga bags (male and female Setouts and Setout Divide) and I liked all of them. In fact, the male version of the Setout is my favorite bag for all in one travel when I don't use a spinner suitcase.
This bag, the Setout Laptop Backpack, looks almost like a mini version of the regular Setouts. If you like the aesthetic of Tortuga, this Laptop version fits right in.
Overall the build quality is great. Tight seems and smooth zips. The zippers are all Ykk and can lock.
There is some organization inside, but I don't really use it so much. There is a key keeper inside too (which I use). There are also some pockets and hidden pouches.
The whole thing opens up clamshell fashion and gives you a large main compartment that you can pack as you like. I use packing cubes and other pouches to keep myself organized. If you need more space, you can expand it a bit with a zipper.
The laptop compartment is well padded and I felt that my laptop was safe at all times. It has a separate bottom so that putting down the bag doesn't damage the laptop.
The backpack straps are injected foam which lends them stiffness. For me, they were a little thick and dug into my shoulders and arms a bit. It wasn't awful, but wasn't super comfy. I think they will break in a bit. Pluses would include the fact that they maintain their shape well and breathe well.
At $89 I think it's a steal. I'm not sure if they are still going to make them, but I think Tortuga has a winner here.
I compared it to the Black Forge Ember and the Topo Designs 3-day Global Briefcase. They are both great bags, but cost quite a bit more.
