In this video you can learn how to do custom sorting in Excel.
Spreadsheet applications such as MS Excel 2016, offer the user the ability to sort data depending on the order they wish to implement. Data in a table has values which represent different variables, in addition, there is a single variable that has different observations about it. For example, in a student’s table, the first column which also acts as the primary field of the table indicates the student’s ID or the student's name. The other columns then provide more information about the students for example grades, gender, courses, age, contacts etc. Therefore, the student name also becomes a variable of its sort.
Sorting values in MS excel 2016 involves selecting the mode of sorting whether it’s by values or alphabetical order. This is also dependent on the data format for a particular column, in that you cannot perform sorting applicable to numbers to texts. Custom sorting is also another feature of MS Excel 2016; this feature enables the user to sort several columns independently. What is noticeable from the other forms of sorting is that one cannot implement a sort criterion for more than 2 columns or variables. However, the custom sort can display data in a specified order utilizing two columns, for example, sorting names in alphabetical order while also sorting them based on an increasing order of grades.
