Microwave fries: Where's the crunch?
Three ingredients are surprisingly few for an industrial product: potatoes, oil, and dextrose are all the industry needs to produce microwave fries. And manufacturers charge extra for the convenience of microwave cooking. Instead of oven-baked fries costing less than €2 per kilogram, the microwave version costs between €9 and €11 per kilogram.
And: Microwave fries have a Nutri-Score of A. What sounds like a good deal for consumers is actually a simple trick by the industry. They don't add any salt to their fries. However, this doesn't make them healthy, as consumers still have to add salt themselves.
