An oddity from 1984 and a huge hit both in England and here in Australia for Marilyn. 'Calling Your Name' was his debut release and it made #4 in the former and one spot higher in the latter region. A one-time friend of Culture Club's 'Boy George, Marilyn capitalized on the gender bending trends in pop culture with his image. Born Peter Antony Robinson, Marilyn, wasn't a one hit wonder, but this great track was definitely the high watermark for his music career; despite issuing four more singes over the subsequent 18 months.
I have used the twelve inch mix of 'Calling Your Name' and re-edited a 'Top Of The Pops' performance of Marilyn and back up singer 'Miss Claudia' aka Claudia Fontaine, one of the finest session singers of the era. The single, helped by a promotional visit to Australia, shot to the Top 3; spent 9 weeks in the Top 10 and was the 19th best seller for 1984.
