PATTI AUSTIN & JAMES INGRAM Baby Come To Me
A Valentine's Day anthem if there ever was one. Patti Austin & James Ingram and their beautiful collaboration 'Baby Come To Me' which had a long and interesting life span. It was first recorded by Patti back in 1981 and included on her LP 'Every Home Should Have One' and it was issued as a single in America in 1982 but initially it failed to get much traction spending only a month in the charts. But its use in the hit soap 'General Hospital' propelled the label to re-issue it late in 1982 and this time it charged all the way to the top of the Billboard Top 100 pop charts in early 1983. Here in Australia, 'Baby Come To Me', scraped in the Top 40; peaking at #38.
Within a year the wonder-filled pairing of Patti with James Ingram produced another hit, in the shape of 'How Do You Keep The Music Playing' which was from the movie 'Best Friends' starring Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn and the composition by legends Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Michel Legrand was nominated for an Oscar. James Ingram sadly departed in 2019, but Patti Austin is still going strong, and what a force of nature she is. James Ingram was one of a generation of powerful male vocalists who straddled R&B and Pop genres effortlessly in the 1980's.
