MALCOLM McLAREN Buffalo Girls
A really early hip hop record from Brit Malcolm McLaren in late 1982. 'Buffalo Girls' entered the Australian charts 40 years ago on its way to a #19 peak; ten spots lower than in England. Credited to Malcolm McLaren and The World's Famous Supreme Team, 'Buffalo Girls' was quite the trailblazer back in its day with its 'scratching' technique sounds, here helmed by Trevor Horn, who became an eminent Producer of contemporary music in the 80's and beyond. This hit single performed best in New Zealand where it made #3. A member of the seminal punk band The Sex Pistols and pop act Bow Wow Wow, McLaren made an even bigger solo splash later in 1983 with 'Double Dutch' which cracked the Top 3 at home and #14 downunder. There was no limit to the talented Malcolm possessed and he put them to good use in his long career. He ventured into fashion, management, politics and entrepreunership. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 64.
