TRIO Da Da Da EXTENDED VIDEO VERSION
This was one of the ODDEST tracks to make the world charts in 1982! German band Trio achieved a global smash in some 30 countries and selling around 13 million copies with this repetitive yet quite hypnotic hit. 'Da Da Da' was recorded in several languages and different lengths, but I have used an extended version that is a mix of German and English. The clip is from the British music show 'Top Of The Pops' which I have re-edited to accommodate the generous 12 inch mix. I thought the 1970's had their fill of One Hit Wonders and novelty songs, but the early 80's had their requisite measure as well.
In 1980 we had The Flying Lizards with their discordantly bizarre take on 'Money (That's What I Want), The Vapors with 'Turning Japanese', The Veterans with 'Ain't No Age For Rock & Roll' and Fiddlers' Dram and 'Day Trip To Bangor'; just a few that come to mind I'm sure there are some from 1981 and 1982, but it is this oddity 'Da Da Da' that springs to mind as it was weird at the time, and no less so, 40 years on.
Released in early 1982, 'Da Da Da' was #2 in Germany and Britain; #3 in Canada and #4 here in Australia, where the song received saturated airplay both on radio and TV. In the United States the track only showed up lowly on the Dance Chart. Clearly Trio were too 'out there' for the Americans! Whilst the German group did release and chart with other songs, the last one to make any splash was a cover of the Little Richard classic 'Tutti Frutti' in 1984 and of all places New Zealand who made it a Top 20 hit! So not a One Hit Wonder, but Trio is best known for 'Da Da Da' ("Da Da Da ich lieb dich nicht du liebst mich nicht aha aha aha" ("Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me Aha Aha Aha") its full and inclusive title! You'll appreciate why it is commonly known as simply 'Da Da Da'
The song breathed new life in the early 00's when Australian crackers Sakata adapted the song in its advertisement; using a biscuit as a bouncing visual across the lyric 'Sa-Ka'Ta - like the good ol days of Karaoke! More bizarre pop culture.....
