Duets: OLETA ADAMS & BRENDA RUSSELL We Will Find A Way
The last in my series of duets for now. This beautiful recording came to me thanks to the fact that I had been in 1994 a huge fan of both Oleta Adams and Brenda Russell for several years, but happened to be in Tower Records in Los Angeles as the cassette single of 'We Will Find A Way' was released. It was from a Whoopi Goldberg/Ray Liotta movie 'Corrina Corrina' and all I needed to know was that Brenda and Oleta were performing a duet - they could have sung the phone book, I would have still purchased it!
Brenda Russell had been in my heart since 1979, but it was a decade later that I rekindled to her music thanks to another movie soundtrack 'Arthur 2: On The Rocks' which was a flop of a movie but with some fab songs, including 'Gravity' by Brenda Russell. After that I had to have everything this gorgeous singer/songwriter had recorded and continued to create to this very day. Regular visitors to my channel will know the reverence I have for her. Oleta Adams first entered my radius in 1989 thanks to her guest vocals on the Tears For Fears classic 'Woman In Chains'. I acquired Oleta's debut LP 'Circle Of One' in 1990, which featured her first link to Brenda Russell when the former recorded the latter's song 'Get Here' and turned it into a huge seller and a Grammy nomination.
Oleta Adams has a voice so rich; so powerful and so textured it is unlike any other! I stayed connected to her music for all of the 1990's and into the 00's, but her output became less frequent and less secular. I am less drawn to gospel than I am to R&B or Pop or Jazz, but Oleta's special gift is not to be ignored and whatever this lady sings is absolutely breathtaking. Having these two exquisite voices together was such a find for me, as the movie and the soundtrack were not exactly high profile in 1994 but the song has been with me ever since and a buried treasure for sure.
